About the Birth-Time Sensitivity Check
Many people are unsure of their exact birth time. Hospital records may be rounded, parents may remember 'around ten in the morning', and older generations sometimes recorded time by the position of the sun. Because the Lagna (ascendant) changes sign roughly every two hours, even a 20-minute error can change the whole house structure of a chart.
This tool tells you how much that uncertainty matters for your specific chart. It finds the exact moments when your current Lagna sign began and will end, and tells you how many minutes of margin you have on either side. It also checks what the Lagna would be 30, 60 and 120 minutes earlier and later, and shows your Navamsa (D9) Lagna, which changes every 13 minutes or so and is therefore far more sensitive.
If your birth time sits comfortably in the middle of a Lagna, small errors won't change the main chart and you can read it with confidence. If you are within a few minutes of a boundary, treat the Lagna as uncertain. In that case astrologers use a technique called birth time rectification, comparing major life events — marriage, children, moves, career changes — with dasha and transit timing to decide which version fits.
Note that the rising sign changes faster or slower depending on your latitude and the sign itself. At higher latitudes such as Toronto, London or northern US cities, some signs rise in barely an hour while others take nearly three — which is why two people born an hour apart may or may not share a Lagna.
If your result shows high sensitivity, consider booking a consultation for rectification before relying on house-based predictions.
How to use this tool
- Enter your recorded birth time.
- See how many minutes until your Lagna changes either way.
- Check the ±30/60/120-minute table.
How we calculate: planetary positions come from the open-source astronomy-engine library (accurate to well under an arc-minute for these purposes), converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. Time zones and historical daylight-saving rules are looked up from your birthplace, so a 1985 birth in Chicago or a 1972 birth in Delhi is converted correctly. Houses are whole-sign from the Lagna, and Rahu/Ketu use the mean node. Results are for self-reflection and education; they are not medical, legal or financial advice.
