Mangal Dosha Check

Check Manglik status from Lagna, Moon and Venus with traditional cancellation factors.

About the Mangal Dosha Check

Mangal dosha, also called Kuja dosha or being 'Manglik', is one of the most discussed factors in Indian marriage matching. It is said to occur when Mars occupies the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the chart. Because Mars represents energy, heat and assertion, these placements are traditionally believed to bring friction into partnership, home life or longevity matters.

Different traditions count the houses from different points. Our tool checks from the Lagna (ascendant) and from the Moon, which is the most widely used approach, and also shows the result from Venus, which some families in South India consider. If Mars falls in a dosha house from both the Lagna and the Moon, we label the dosha as stronger; from only one, as mild.

Classical texts and later commentators list many cancellations. Mars in its own sign (Aries or Scorpio) or exalted in Capricorn is considered to have its intensity reduced. Jupiter conjoining or aspecting Mars is another widely cited cancellation. Matching two Manglik charts is also traditionally said to neutralise the effect. We list the cancellations we detect, but an experienced astrologer will weigh the whole chart.

It is worth saying plainly: being Manglik is very common — depending on the method, roughly 40–60% of charts qualify. Many happy marriages exist between Manglik and non-Manglik partners. Families who take it seriously usually address it with a Mangal Dosh Nivaran puja, Hanuman worship on Tuesdays, or by matching with a Manglik partner, rather than by avoiding a good match.

Use this calculator to understand where you stand and why, rather than as a final judgment. For marriage decisions, combine it with the full Ashtakoot matching and, ideally, a conversation with an astrologer who can look at both charts together.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter birth details.
  2. See Mars's house from Lagna, Moon and Venus.
  3. Review any cancellations detected.

How we calculate: planetary positions come from the open-source astronomy-engine library (accurate to well under an arc-minute for these purposes), converted to the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa. Time zones and historical daylight-saving rules are looked up from your birthplace, so a 1985 birth in Chicago or a 1972 birth in Delhi is converted correctly. Houses are whole-sign from the Lagna, and Rahu/Ketu use the mean node. Results are for self-reflection and education; they are not medical, legal or financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

How common is Mangal dosha?

Very common — a large share of all birth charts have Mars in one of the six dosha houses from the Lagna or Moon.

Does Mangal dosha end at age 28?

This is a popular belief, not a classical rule. Many astrologers say Mars matures around 28, which can soften its effects.

What if both partners are Manglik?

Traditionally, the dosha is considered balanced when both charts have it.

What remedies are traditional?

Mangal Dosh Nivaran puja, Hanuman Chalisa on Tuesdays, Mangal mantra japa and, in some families, a symbolic Kumbh vivah.
