New Zealand's Indian community is concentrated in Auckland, especially Sandringham, Mt Roskill, Papatoetoe, Flat Bush and Takanini, with growing families in Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch. Outside the largest centres it can be hard to find a pandit at all, let alone one free on a chosen muhurat.
Our pandits are based in India and conduct pujas live over Zoom, Google Meet or WhatsApp video, guiding the family through sankalp, puja and aarti step by step. Rituals traditionally done at a tirth, such as pind daan and asthi visarjan, are performed on your family's behalf at Prayagraj, Kashi, Ayodhya or Mathura-Vrindavan and shown to you live.
Many New Zealand rentals must have working smoke alarms, and apartments often have building fire systems. Our smoke-free havan has the pandit perform the fire havan at a tirth on camera while your family offers ahutis at home with no flame or smoke, or with only a ghee lamp. We have no office in New Zealand and do not visit homes.

Practical notes for New Zealand
- Sandringham Road in Auckland has many Indian grocers, as do Papatoetoe, Mt Roskill and Manukau. In smaller cities, samagri can be ordered online from New Zealand Indian grocers; we send a checklist and suggest substitutes.
- Residential tenancies in New Zealand are required to have working smoke alarms. Never disable or cover one; use a smoke-free havan or ghee-lamp puja instead.
- New Zealand is 6h30m ahead of IST in winter (NZST) and 7h30m ahead during daylight saving (last Sunday of September to first Sunday of April).
- Because New Zealand is well ahead of India, NZ mornings are before dawn in India. Early afternoon to evening in New Zealand suits our pandits best, and an NZ evening is Indian afternoon.
- Rivers, lakes and the sea carry deep cultural significance in Aotearoa and water-quality rules apply. Please do not place ashes, flowers or puja items in waterways; we arrange visarjan and asthi visarjan at a tirth in India.
- Outdoor fires may be restricted by local fire seasons set by Fire and Emergency New Zealand. The smoke-free havan works indoors at any time.
- School holidays and long weekends such as Labour Weekend and Easter are popular for Griha Pravesh and Namkaran; book two to three weeks ahead.
Festivals in NZ time
- Diwali falls in October or November, in New Zealand spring and daylight saving. An NZ evening Lakshmi-Ganesh Puja is early afternoon in India.
- Navratri usually falls in late September–October, around the switch to daylight saving, so we recheck slot times that week.
- Maha Shivratri falls in late summer; an indoor Rudrabhishek with no open flame suits fire-season restrictions.
- Pitru Paksha in September–October is a common time for pind daan, performed at Prayagraj or Kashi in your family's names and shown live in your afternoon.
- New Zealand is among the first places where each day begins, so a tithi can start on a different local date from India; we calculate muhurats for Auckland.
Worried about smoke alarms? Smoke-free havan available

Frequently asked questions
Is there a pandit in Auckland who can visit our home?
No. Our pandits are in India and we do not offer home visits in New Zealand. Pujas are conducted live by video, or at a tirth in India on your behalf.
What time should we book from New Zealand?
Early afternoon to evening in New Zealand works best. NZ is 6h30m ahead of IST in winter and 7h30m ahead during daylight saving, so NZ mornings are before dawn in India.
We rent a house with smoke alarms. Can we still have a havan?
Yes, with our smoke-free havan: the pandit does the fire havan at a tirth in India on camera while you offer ahutis without flame, or you use a single ghee lamp. Please never disable or cover an alarm.
We live outside Auckland. Can we still do a puja?
Yes. Online pujas work anywhere with a stable internet connection. Samagri can be ordered from Indian grocers online, and we suggest simple substitutes for anything hard to get.
Can we immerse a Ganesh murti or puja flowers locally?
Please do not place them in rivers, lakes or the sea. A clay murti can be dissolved in a bucket of water at home, and we can arrange visarjan at a tirth in India.
Is the muhurat calculated for New Zealand?
Yes. For pujas in your home, we calculate it for Auckland or your city. Because NZ is ahead of India, the date can differ from Indian calendars.
Can grandparents in India watch the Namkaran?
Yes. Share the video link and family in India and elsewhere can join live.
How is asthi visarjan arranged from New Zealand?
We arrange it at Prayagraj or Kashi in your family's names. Please check with your funeral director about documents for carrying or sending ashes to India. The ritual can be shown to you live.
Can you do Griha Pravesh online?
Yes. The pandit guides the entry, kalash sthapana and Vastu puja over video, and a smoke-free havan option is available.
What language will the pandit use?
Mantras are in Sanskrit, with guidance in Hindi or English.
