A simple Lakshmi Puja at home
- Clean the puja place and light diyas at the door before sunset.
- Place Lakshmi and Ganesha (idols or a picture) on a red cloth with a kalash of water, rice, flowers and sweets.
- Begin with Ganesha, then take a sankalp with your names, gotra, city and the date.
- Offer kumkum, flowers, sweets and coins to Lakshmi; chant "Om Shreem Mahalakshmyai Namah" 108 times if you can.
- Finish with aarti and share prasad; keep a lamp burning through the night.
Samagri you cannot find in Montreal can usually be replaced: any clean red cloth, local flowers, and sweets from an Indian grocer.
