Online puja for families in Calgary

Calgary has one of the fastest-growing South Asian communities in Canada, with many Hindu families in northeast Calgary, around Saddle Ridge, Taradale, Martindale, Skyview Ranch and Cornerstone, and in nearby Airdrie and Chestermere. Many households are newcomers, students or young families who have moved for work, and some work shifts or rotations that make it hard to plan a home puja around a pandit's schedule. Long, cold winters keep windows shut for months, and summer fire bans can rule out an outdoor havan. Our pandits are based in India and conduct pujas live over Zoom, Google Meet or WhatsApp video. The pandit guides each step and explains it in Hindi or English, so first-timers and children can follow, and family in India can join on the same link. Rituals traditionally done at a tirth, such as pind daan and asthi visarjan, are performed on your family's behalf at Prayagraj, Kashi, Ayodhya or Mathura-Vrindavan and shown to you live. For homes and condos with smoke alarms, we offer a smoke-free havan: the pandit performs the fire havan live at a tirth in India while your family offers ahutis at home with no flame or smoke, or with only a ghee lamp. We have no office in Canada and do not make home visits.

Practical notes for Calgary

• Indian grocery stores in the area stock most samagri; we send a checklist with substitutes before your puja.
• Calgary is 11h30m behind IST all year, since Alberta moved to permanent daylight time (UTC−6) from November 2026. Evening pujas fall in the Indian morning; early-morning pujas fall in the Indian evening.
• In winter, an outdoor havan is rarely practical, and Alberta can bring in summer fire bans; the smoke-free havan works indoors all year. Never cover or disable an alarm.
• Many families do Griha Pravesh on or just after possession day; share your date early so we can find a muhurat.
• Do not put ashes or offerings into the Bow or Elbow rivers; we arrange visarjan at a tirth in India.
• Long weekends and school breaks fill up first; book two to three weeks ahead.
