How these times are calculated

Lakshmi Puja is done on the evening when Amavasya (the new moon tithi of Kartika) is running during Pradosh Kaal. Pradosh Kaal starts at sunset and lasts a fifth of the night. Inside it, the best window is when Vrishabha (Taurus), a fixed sign, is rising, so that prosperity "stays" in the home. The muhurat in the table is where all three overlap. If Amavasya ends or starts inside Pradosh, the window is cut to the part where it runs.

Every value is computed for the city's own latitude, longitude and time zone, including daylight saving, with the sidereal (Lahiri) zodiac. Results agree with the major panchangs to within a minute or two. Family and temple traditions may follow a different rule, so follow your own priest when they differ.

Have the puja done for your family

A pandit in India can perform the Lakshmi Ganesh puja live on video at your city's muhurat, with your names and gotra in the sankalp.

Frequently asked questions

When is Diwali 2027 in the USA?

Lakshmi Puja is on Thursday, 28 October 2027 in New York, and on the same evening in every US city in our table. The muhurat in New York is 6:48 PM – 8:36 PM local time.

Why can't I just convert the India time?

The puja is tied to your own sunset (Pradosh Kaal) and to the Vrishabha (Taurus) sign rising on your own horizon. The New Delhi muhurat of 6:36 PM – 7:06 PM IST falls in the morning or afternoon in North America, which is not Diwali evening.

How is the Lakshmi Puja muhurat worked out?

Three things must overlap: Amavasya tithi, Pradosh Kaal (the first fifth of the night after sunset) and the fixed Vrishabha lagna. We calculate each one for the city's own coordinates and time zone, using the sidereal (Lahiri) zodiac.

What if I miss the muhurat?

Do the puja later the same night while Amavasya is still running. Many families also do a short puja at the Nishita (midnight) time. Starting with a clean place and a sincere sankalp matters more than the exact minute.

Can a pandit do the puja for us online?

Yes. A pandit in India can perform the Lakshmi Ganesh puja live on video at your local muhurat, with your family's names and gotra in the sankalp. You join from home and follow along.
